Working the Room at a Career Fair or Networking Event
Networking is one of the most important job-search tools! To derive the most benefit from a professional networking event and a career fair, you will need to do some preparation before you go. Learn how to develop an overall strategy before attending events and job fairs, and plan the essential steps that will maximize your experience.

WHAT IS LINKS: LINKS is an acronym for Leads, Information, Networking, Know-how, and Strategies. It is an educational and motivational program designed to help candidates prepare for the week ahead and to share conversation, contacts, and job-search information in a relaxed, welcoming environment. For the unemployed professional, LINKS is a “place to go” to focus on the job search when others go to work on Monday Mornings. LINKS sessions are free and open to the public. Reservations are required.

- Practice a 30-second commercial in a relaxed, safe environment
- Exchange ideas, information, and experiences with participants
- Create an action plan for the week
What We Will Cover:
- 30-Second commercials
- The topic of the week
- Candidate successes and challenges
- Individual action plans for the week
No materials are needed.
Program Length: 1½ hours. Participants should plan to arrive 15 minutes early.
Who Should Attend:
Unemployed and underemployed individuals looking to work in a professional environment and seeking relevant and practical information or advice regarding the next steps in their job search or career path. This includes individuals in mid-career transition, women re-entering the workforce after a hiatus, military veterans transitioning to the civilian workforce, recent college graduates launching their careers, and mature workers not ready or able to retire.
Cost to Attend: Free
Out of consideration for other participants, we ask that all candidates refrain from wearing fragrances, perfume, and cologne.
